SILLY OLD BUGGERS
A musical celebration of growing old
Paul and Helen, Martin and Chloris refuse to grow old with dignity.
Life is meant for living - and that’s what they’ll be doing till the end.
Paul and Helen are spending their new life together with lots of laughter,
love and a sense of adventure.
Martin is alone and lonely - until he meets up with new friends who help him
realise that there’s a bit more to life than hypochondria.
And Chloris? Well, retirement from the stage may not be the glamorous life
she’s
used to, but she knows it’s much better to dye
than be grey.
Silly Old Buggers was work-shopped with four ’mature’ performers, a director and a musical director. A lot of re-writing went on between workshops and each character was developed and the whole show tightened.
At two public performances, the audiences received the show with heaps of laughter — and a few tears. Open forums followed each performance and after lively discussions between the audience, the writer, the directors and all those on stage, it was very encouraging to have almost unanimous agreement that the show has a commercial future.
Since then, Silly Old Buggers now has a professional director who is interested in taking the show further. He is currently looking for a musical director and once the production team is in place, we will be doing all we can to get a professional production up and running.
Some of the songs you’ll be able to enjoy are:
- Fight for Your Rights (don’t let the bastards win)
- It’s the Nicest Solar Plexus (that I have ever seen)
- Little Boxes (with compartments for each day of every week)
- I’d Much Rather Dye Than be Grey.
- Our Friends Will Make Us Strong.
- ...and many more. (Currently a total of 18 songs)
